Ralph E. "Woody" Newell, 67, of Zanesville, Ohio died Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016 at his home.
Born August 24, 1948 in Zanesville he was a son of the late Lewis and Eileen (Lindell) Newell and was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Viet Nam War. "Woody" was active in the VFW; was a life member of the DAV and member of the Teamsters Union. He loved camping, boating; NASCAR racing and spending time with his family. He was a retired truck driver, most recently as a driver for NASCAR driving a concession truck. Previously he had worked for Birkhimer Asphalt Company.
Surviving is one son, Ralph E. "Bud" Newell, Jr. and his wife Misty of Nashport, Ohio; three daughters, Michelle Lyons and her husband Mark of Zanesville, Lisa Newell Hutchison and her fiancée, William Best of Zanesville and Robyn Young of Nashport; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Dwight (Jackie) Newell of Trinway; four sisters, Gloria Doyle of Dresden, Betty (Larry) Holland of Trinway, Naomi Stevens and Vicky (Ted) Withers, both of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Robert Lewis Padgett and a sister Teresa (T. T.) Newell.
Calling hours will be 5pm to 8pm Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Memorial services will be at 8pm Tuesday, February, 2, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Greg Inboden officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted.
