DRESDEN ? Ralph W. Carnes, 77, of Trinway, Ohio died at 9:49pm Thursday, December 27, 2007 in the emergency room of Genesis Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville. Born June 7, 1930 in Roscoe, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph and Pearl (Freshwater) Carnes. Mr. Carnes retired from Peabody Coal Company after 29 years of service. He also was a truck driver for the Clow Corporation for 8 years, retiring in 1988. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served in Korea. He received the rank of Corporal and received numerous decoration of service, including the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and other commemorative medals from his Korean service. Mr. Carnes was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a former member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, an active member of V. F. W. Post 1330 in Coshocton, Moose Lodge 935, Coshocton and the Coshocton County Sportsman Club. Surviving is his wife, Marjorie E. (Fleming) Carnes; five sons, Gary (Phyllis) Carnes and Greg (Connie) Carnes of Dresden, Ricki (Betty) Saylor of Conesville, Rodney ?Bo? (Betsy) Saylor and Wayne (Pam) Exline both of Nashport; three daughters, Vicki (Stanley) Pickens of Adamsville, Debbie Alexander and Becky (Lee) Bruce both of Dresden; twenty-one grandchildren, Becky Graham, Jeremy Carnes, Amanda Carnes, Josh Carnes, Bobbi Davis, Darby Brock, Fermina ?Minnie? Thomas, Louis Daugherty, Jr., Toby Daugherty, Kyle Daugherty, Talena Daugherty, Steve Pickens, Leanne Pickens, Jay Alexander, Alexa Alexander, Cody Carnes, Austin Saylor, Laicee Hane, Brianna Hane, Hannah Hane and Bransen Bruce; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Sherylnn) Carnes of West Lafayette; two sisters, Marie (Lyle) Dewitt of Utica and Muriel Blomberg of Woodbury, Minnesota; two sisters in-law, Kay Carnes and Alma Carnes both of Coshocton; a brother in-law Dennis Shetz of Coshocton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, Clarence, Donald and Kenneth Carnes, his sisters Dorothy Sheetz, Jane Jacobs and infant sister Evelyn Carnes and a special friend, Langdon ?Buck? Harrah. Calling hours will be Monday, December 31, 2007 from Noon until service time, which will be at 2:00pm Monday in the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, with Rev. Don Dolick officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Association.
