A funeral service for R. Corbin Smith, 85 of Heath will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark with Rev. Curtis Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be observed from 1:00 p.m. until the service.

Mr. Smith passed away at his residence on September 16, 2021. He was born February 4, 1936 in Newark to Russell and Ardella (Ponser) Smith.

He was a 1954 graduate of Newark High School. He began his career at Heath Refinery immediately. He retired from Columbia Gas in 1992. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, having served on Council and the Teen Center Building Committee. Corbin had served 11 years with the Heath V.F.D. He was also involved as a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and an avid wood worker. He had taught basic wood working through vocational school programs and a member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy L. (Verway) Smith; children, Michelle (Bob) Phillips, Mike (Teresa) Smith, Neil Vogelmeier all of Newark, Rusty (Marianne) Smith of Utica, Mark ((Jeani) Smith of Tiffin, Carol (Rick) Lewis of Conover; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Bob) Hitchings of Hebron; brother, Vernon R. (Charlene) Smith of Heath; sister & brother-in-law, Karen (Frank) Glidden of Sterling Heights, MI; four nieces and nephews.
