Phyllis Benner, 75 of Newark passed away on March 21, 2025 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.

Phyllis had been employed by Dairy Mart in many positions in a career of over 40 years. She was born December 13, 1949 in Newark to the late Roy and Norma Jean (Loper) Deckard.

She was devoted to her family. Her first duty was being a beloved grandma that was always present for her grandchildren and involved in all of their activities.

She was married to her sweetheart, David, for 57 years. Quite simply she was the glue that held her family together.

She treasured her euchre club friends building a bond for over 40 years. Many relaxing hours were spent during the summer at the river house located on the Muskingum River.  Christmas season was by far her favorite time of year enjoying all the celebrations that happened.

She is survived by her loving husband, whom she married in 1968, David A. Benner; daughters, Melissa (Jim White) Poulton of Thornville, Jennifer (Chad) Cooperrider of Newark; grandchildren, Cory Cooperrider, Katie Cooperrider, Jordan Poulton, Chance White; siblings, Sherry Neighbor, Regina McKnight, Tim Deckard all of Newark; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Deckard, George Deckard and Danny Deckard.

Visitations will be observed Thursday evening from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
