A funeral service for Phillip T. Strear, 68 of Newark will be held Wednesday June 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home.Mr. Strear died Saturday June 20, 2009 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born March 7, 1941 in Newark to the late James and Ella May (Nichols) Strear.Mr. Strear retired in 1993 with 24 years service with the Newark Air Force base as a guidance systems repairman. He was also a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a 25 year member of Newark Eagles # 387, serving as a past president and a past trustee. He attended Second Baptist Church and enjoyed golf. He was involved with many of his children?s activities including being an assistant girl scout leader.He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole J. (Livingston) Strear, whom he married May 31, 1962; daughter, Jamie (Cory) Smart of Newark; son, James (Pamela) Strear of Newark; grandchildren, Treg Smart, Parker Smart and Thadeus ?T.J? Strear. Calling hours will be observed Tuesday June 23, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street. Eagles services will be conducted Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.The family requests memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio P.O. Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430.
