Obituary

A celebration of the life of Pauletta Ann Mathews, 67 of Newark will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Mathews passed away Sunday at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 5, 1941 in Newark to Vivien Carl and Lena (Moore) Berry. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in Chapel Choir and Women?s Chorus. She volunteered at Par Excellence Learning Center. Mrs. Mathews loved children, she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Mathews of Newark; children, Jeff Mathews of Newark, Clarence Mathews, III of Reynoldsburg, Karen (Tommy) Hayes of Newark, Chris Mathews of Newark; brothers, Raymond (Carol) Berry of Newark, Eugene (Carolyn) Berry of Powell, Richard (Arthurine) Berry of Newark; sisters, Blanche Washington of Cleveland, Josephine (Fred) Elliot of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Barbara Strong of Newark, Patricia (James) Noble of Newark, and Lorraine Berry of Newark; 12 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four siblings. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to Par Excellence Learning Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
