Obituary

A funeral service for Paul Davis, 82 of Newark will be held Thursday February 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Horsley officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Davis died Saturday evening February 3, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 1, 1935 in Gandeville, WVA to Lawrence and Freda (Greathouse) Davis.

He was a graduate of Malta-McConnelsville High School. A former member of the |Army National Guard. He retired in 1987 from Owens-Corning Fiberglas as a mechanic in the motor pool. He had the ability to devise solutions to many building projects. He was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #490 F&AM, a member of Ancient Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and Columbus Aladdin Shrine. One of his favorite activities was coaching baseball, football and basketball for the Licking Valley Little League program. He enjoyed dirt track racing, shuffleboard, throwing horseshoes and camping. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rita (Brewer) Davis, whom he married December 6, 1976; children, Sue (Terry) Mellars Davis, Sherry (Jeff) Nelson, Steve (Pam) Davis, Scott (Lisa) Davis; nine grandchildren, Misti (Richard) Staggers, J.D. Denman, Brittany Nelson, Steven Davis, Ted (Jordan) Davis, Kelsey Mitchell, Kailey Mitchell, Kimber Mitchell, Kaison McMannis; three great-grandchildren, Abbey Denman, Bodhi Staggers, Blayden Davis; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ova Harold Davis, Robert Davis; sister-in-law, Joann Davis.
Visitation will be observed Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m.

The family requests memorial contributions to Generation Hospice 1435A W. Main St. Newark, OH 43055. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
