Obituary

Norman E. Phalen, 86, of Norwich, Ohio died Monday evening, March 5, 2012 at his home.
Born June 18, 1925 in Worland, Missouri he was the son of the late Charles and Thelma (Moody) Phalen and was a 1943 graduate of Pleasanton High School. Mr. Phalen was a Navy veteran having served during World War II. He retired in 1981 from Peabody Coal Company with 35 years of services. He later worked for 10 years with Apache Aggregate of Coshocton, Ohio. He was a member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church and he enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise (Umphenour) Phalen whom he married February 9, 1947; two sons, David (Deborah) Phalen of Plainfield, Indiana and Kim (Tammy) Phalen of Zanesville, Ohio; one daughter, Sherry Keller of Weatherford, Texas; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Norris (Carol) Phalen of Windsor, Missouri; a sister in-law, Connie Fultz of Mound City, Kansas and a brother in-law, Luther Umphenour of Ottawa, Kansas.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam Phalen; a grandson, Michael Phalen; three brothers and one sister.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8pm Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Adamsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
