Nellie Smailes, 98, of Dresden, died at 5:50AM Friday April 23, 2004 at Genesis Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Smailes was born August 30, 1905 in Coshocton County, a daughter of the late Perry and Adeline (Kleinknecht) Thomas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dresden and the Bonnie Longaberger Senior Center. Surviving are two daughters, Frances Randles and Helen Gales, both of Dresden, three grandchildren, Lewis (Sharon) Randles of Dresden, Karen (Don) Bush of Latrobe, PA, Sharon (Kenneth) Uber of Indiana, PA, seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, a special step son, Lowell (Lela) Smailes of Conesville, step sons, William (Betty) Smailes of Trinway, Francis (Joy) Smailes of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by husbands, Jacob Way in August 1943 and J. Orville Smailes in May 1991; two sons-in-law, Ray Randles and Thomas Gales; two step sons, Dwight and Lorain Smailes, two brothers, five half brothers and one sister. Friends may call 5-8PM Sunday April 25, 2004 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held on Monday at 11AM with Pastor Andrew Dennis officiating.
