NEWARK: A funeral service for Neil E. Thompson, 81 of Newark will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Osborne officiating.
Mr. Thompson died Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born October 6, 1929 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Homer O. and Nellie F. (Richards) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson retired in 1990 from the Repack Dept. of Owens Corning Fiberglas with 22 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of GMP # 244. He was a member of the Vineyard of Licking County and enjoyed singing Bass. During his retirement, he was an active mall walker and enjoyed golfing. He was a Cincinnati Bengals fan and spent many hours caring for his lawn. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn D. (Hughes) Thompson, whom he married August 26, 1962; daughter, Deena (Steven) Casagrande of Cincinnati; son, Peter Thompson of Newark; grandchildren, James and Rachel; sisters, Frances Davis of Wellston, Donna Reeder of Kettering; brothers, Dwight (Barbara) Thompson of Englewood, Glenn (Freda) Thompson of Xenia; sister-in-law, Roma Thompson of Columbus; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Woodrow Thompson, Homer Thompson, Orville Thompson; sisters, Marinelle Thompson, Constance Thompson; sister-in-law, Marge Thompson; brothers-in-law, Carl Davis, Clifford Reeder.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
