Nancy L. Shumate, 74, of Dresden, died Sunday morning, August 30, 2026, at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville.
Born December 16, 1951, in Zanesville a daughter of the late Rodney “Jack” and Dorothy (Brooks) Morrison Sr. and a 1969 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. She worked at Johnson's Restaurant as a teenager, Longaberger Co. for a few years and later ran the Pizza Parlor for her brother for over 20 years, where she earned her nickname “Nancy Gazette” the town gossip. She was an avid sports fan, watching the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and anything her grandchildren played. She was a professional basketball watcher, spending so many hours in the Gym watching her children and then grandchildren on the court. Nancys greatest joy in life was babysitting her grandchildren for decades.
Surviving is her husband of 54 years, Leslie “Les” Shumate Sr. of the home; three children, JR (Kari) Shumate, Rick Shumate, and Jackie (Shane) LeFevre; fourteen grandchildren, Anthom Weaver, Austen Parsons, Jay (Mariah) Shumate, Katie Shumate, Zeke Lydic, Emma Shumate, Kyren Shumate, Felicity (Trevor) Vice, Jordan LeFevre, Bella LeFevre, Landon LeFevre, Michaela (Lucas) Plumadore, Sophia Shumate and Ashlin Shumate; two great grandchildren, Lana and Luella Shumate; a sister, Pam Bice; brother, Rod Morrison II; brother-in-law, Tom Davis; sister-in-law, Debbie (Wayne) Gomo; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Greg Morrison; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Kamphuis and Stacey Morrison; father and mother in-law, Cecil and Clara Davis.
Friends and family may visit, 2-4 & 6-8pm, Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil | Wagner | Marshall Funeral Homes, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 5, 2026.
