N. Ellen Merriam, 76, of Adamsville, Ohio died Sunday afternoon, January 1, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born March 12, 1940 in Adamsville she was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Lena (Mersing) Hutchison and was a 1958 graduate of Adamsville High School. Mrs. Merriam was a realtor with Town & Country Realtors of Zanesville and she assisted in the operation of her family's business, Merriam Roofing of Adamsville. She was a member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church.
Ellen was very devoted to her community and was currently serving the Village of Adamsville as its Mayor, an office she has held for many years. She was active in the Wendell Williams Adamsville Community Building Organization; the Adamsville Community Association; Adamsville Homemakers Club and the Adamsville Card Club. She enjoyed sports, especially Tri-Valley High School sports and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Her greatest enjoyment, though, was her family.
Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving are three children, Daniel Merriam and his wife, Becky of Adamsville, Douglas Merriam and his wife, Michele of Zanesville and Kimberly Merriam Downs and her husband Tom of Nashport, Ohio; six grandchildren, Adrienne Merriam, Megan Carpenter, Alie Hicks, Jessica Moyer, Logan Moyer and Maddi Moyer; two great grandchildren, Gannin Carpenter and Lena Hicks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Dwain J. Merriam whom she married July 17, 1959 and who died November 14, 2010; a grandson, Brandon Merriam; three brothers, Victor, Charles and Norman Hutchison and two sisters, Bonnie and Karen Hutchinson.
Calling hours will be 4pm to 8pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Adamsville United Methodist Church, 8065 East Street. Calling hours will also be for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services will be at 1:30pm Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Adamsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Pamela Lashley officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora, Ohio.
