Obituary

Funeral services for Mildred K. Ruton, 97 of Hebron will be held Sunday January 11, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Mrs. Ruton died Friday January 9, 2004 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. She was born November 2, 1906 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Mrs. Ruton was a member of the International Society of Poets (ISP). Her poetry was published in many ISP books. Mildred and her husband Edgar operated the former Hillbilly Park in the 1950?s, where many well-known country music performers appeared. Prior to that, Mildred and Edgar had a traveling dog act and were featured on the Ed Sullivan Show. They traveled across the U.S. performing alongside circus acts with their dogs. They also performed in Vaudeville. She was a lifetime member of the Ohio Country Music Association, member of the Eastern Star, attended Zerger Hall and was an active member of the Silver Club.She is survived by seven grandchildren, Janet (James) Miller, Lawrence (Phyllis) Oliver, Edgar Oliver, Joyce Kidd, Joanie (Robert) Kidd, Kenneth (Rhonda) Oliver, Christy (Dave) Laghan; sixteen great grandchildren, Jason Miller, Jeremy (Georgeia) Miller, Chris Kidd, Michelle Mathis, Derek Oliver, Chad Kidd, William Kidd, Jared Kidd, Keith Oliver, Nicholas Oliver, Devin Oliver, Kaitlyn Oliver, Corey, Shawn, Dallas Laghan and Phillip Moore; twelve great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edgar Ruton in 1957; two sons, William Beckford in 1974, Lawrence K. Oliver, Sr. in 1996, one great grandson, Brandon Pursley in 1982; four brothers and one sister.Calling hours will be observed Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.She was helped by the hospice organization through her recent failing health. The family requests contributions in her memory to Hospice of Central Ohio, 1984 A Coffman Road, Newark. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
