Mildred ""Poots"" Mattingly, 79, of Dresden, passed away at the Morrison House in Zanesville on Sunday June 15, 2003. Mildred was born on June 28, 1923 to the late Charles and Ruth Mitchell. Poots was a member of the Dresden American Legion Ladies Auxillary where she had served as tresurer. She and her late husband Alfred E. Mattingly raised six children; Susan Barton of Naples, Florida, Sally (Tom) Miller of Dresden, Alan Mattingly of Fort Myers, Florida, Cindy (Gerald) Balderson of Kalaheo, Hawaii and Missy Vanderkam of Kerrville, Texas; ten grandchildren, Roxanne, Raquel, Ryan, Jenny, Ginger, Matt, Stephen, Gabrielle, Joseph and Bing; eight great grandchildren Alyssa, Collin, Conner, Courtney, Katlyn, Andrew, Madison and Grace. ""Poots"" loved being surrounded by children and her children have so many fond memories of her with them, and with her grandchildren. Her happiness in raising her family will be a cherished memory to those who knew her. She will be missed by her sisters Vivian (Bob) Mathews, Maxine (Martin) Makboulian, and her brother Charles ""Bud"" (Carol) Mitchell.Along with her parents, her son SGT John Eugene Mattingly, USMC, died during the Vietnam War in 1969. Mildred was also preceded in death by her loving sisters Gloria (Paul) Dobson and Jane (Mac) Dickerson. Friends may call at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, Dresden on Tuesday from 4 PM - 8 PM, where funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2003 at 11 AM with Pastor Rob Turner officiating.
