Obituary

Mazie Gertrude Taylor, 90, of Adamsville, Ohio passed into her Lord's loving arms Thursday evening, October 2, 2014 at Beckett House, New Concord, Ohio, after a short illness.
Born June 22, 1924 in Hopewell Township of Muskingum County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Glenna (Shiplett) Westcott and was a 1942 graduate of Hopewell High School. Following High School she attended and graduated from the Meredith Business College of Zanesville. Mazie retired from the Muskingum County Auditor's Office with 20 years of service and was later a home health aide with Interim Health Care. She was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, first with the Frank M. Ransbottom Chapter in Adamsville where she served as Worthy Matron in 1981 and 1985, and then the Laura Chapter at Norwich, Ohio. Mazie was an active member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church, a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution, as well as many varied activities and organizations over the years. She had an active life, loving gardening, especially her Iris and Day Lilies, traveling and driving her many friends to see new adventures. Widowed at the age of 42 with five children whom she raised lovingly by herself, Mazie was a strong and independent woman who imparted her wisdom, her wit and her love of life and Christian values on to her children.
She is survived by her children, Dianne (Earl) Hatfield of Adamsville, Kaye (Robert) Bednarczuk of South Zanesville, Ellen (Michael) Bates of Springfield, Ohio, Robert (Carol) Taylor and Denise (Harold) Spiker, both of Adamsville; nine grandchildren, Patrick (Shawn) Hatfield, Wade (Amanda) Hatfield, Kerri (Trent) Paxson, Jill Bednarczuk, Evan (Jessica) Bates, Craig (Jessica) Bates, Stephen (Rachel) Bates, William Taylor and Taylor Curtis; eighteen great grandchildren, Ashley and Stacia Hatfield, Wesley and Kyleigh Hatfield, Sarah, Rachel and Katelyn Paxson, Deidre and Brandon Bates, Mazie, Cash, Mac and Sophie Bates, Johnna and Amelia Bates, and William, Cameron and Coen Taylor; a great great grandchild, Eli Bates; sisters in-law, Virginia Walker and Lois (Carl) Taylor; a special Cousin, Betty Acker; and several other cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William F. "Bill" Taylor, whom she married January 16, 1947 and who died July 27, 1966; two brothers, Earl and Ralph Westcott, and an infant granddaughter Johnna Bates.
Calling hours will be from 3pm to 8pm Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Adamsville United Methodist Church, 8065 East Street, Adamsville, Ohio. At 2pm Monday, prior to calling hours, Laura Chapter, OES will conduct Eastern Star services.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, October 7, 2014 the Adamsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Curtis Thomas officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
