FRAZEYSBURG – May Chaney, 80, of Newark, Ohio died Tuesday morning, March 20, 2012 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born August 7, 1931 in London, England she was a daughter of the late James and Maude Gardiner. May came to America after her marriage to Ralph C. Chaney on July 11, 1953 and she became a U. S. citizen. She was a former supervisor with the R. L. Polk Company and she and her late husband were the owners and operators of Chaney's Gardens near Marne, Ohio. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved going to Lake Erie during the summers and she enjoyed cooking for her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Debra Chaney of Newark and Robin (Steve) Ludinich of Frazeysburg; a son, Wayne Chaney of Newark and two grandchildren, who were the love of her life, Lindsay and Sarah Ludinich. Also surviving are four sisters, Joyce Layfield of Bedford, Texas, and Debbie (Tony) Majors, Vicky Cheesely and Jan Powers, all of London, England; two brothers, Harry (Maureen) Gardiner and Alex Gardiner, both of London, England; several nieces and nephews and her "best friend and companion", her German Shepherd, "Bullet".
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Chaney who died May 17, 2008; four sisters, Rose, Pat, Flo and Betty and a brother, Alfred.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3pm Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
A celebration of May's life will begin at 3:00pm Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Mesnard and the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating.
