A funeral service for Maurice L. Kirkman, 75 of Newark will be held Tuesday September 4, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor John Harra officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Licking County Veterans Alliance will provide military honors. Mr. Kirkman died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born July 17, 1932 in Cambridge, Ohio to the late Charles Kirkman and Mildred (Britton) Prince. Mr Kirkman retired in 1995 with 20 years service from the State of Ohio as a meat inspector. He also retired as a First Sgt. with the U.S. Army with 20 years service. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Newark Post # 85 American Legion, Vietnam Veterans # 55, life member Newark D.A.V.# 23, life member Buckeye Lake Post # 1388 V.F.W., MOAA, Korean War Veterans Association of Central Florida East Coast Chapter 189, lifetime member NAUS, 24th Infantry Division Association, life member of First Infantry Division, member of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc., 26 year member of Harmony Lodge # 8 F& AM, Scottish Rite of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, member and past patron of Eagon Chapter # 123 OES of Hebron. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Donna (Olin) Kirkman, whom he married October 18, 1976; daughters, Tracy (Eric) Horn of Gahanna, Cynthia (John) Stemper of Urbana, Melody Kirkman of Jacksonville, FL., Vicky (Elliott) Trotter of Ft. Worth, TX; sons, David (Jing) Kirkman of Seattle, WA., Mark (Kim) Whitney of Worthington, Kevin Whitney of Gahanna, Patrick (Missy) Kirkman of Ft. Worth, TX., sixteen grandchildren including Zachery Horn; several great grandchildren. Calling hours will be observed Monday September 3, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. with Masonic and Eastern Star services at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street. The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital-Lexington, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Ky. 40502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
