Obituary

On October 1, 2017 our earthly world lost one of it's best... Mary Jane Walcutt passed away at Brookdale Newark, where she had resided since 2015.

She was born on December 17, 1931 to John Lewis Clinton and Alta Jane (Lake) Barrick and grew up on the beautiful family farm near Perryton, Ohio.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Lori Walcutt of Denver, Colorado, a cherished granddaughter Sarah Jane Walcutt of San Francisco, California, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband James I. Walcutt and her brothers Dale, Wayne and Walter Barrick of Perryton, Ohio.

Mary Jane graduated from Hanover-Toboso High School in 1949, where she met her future husband Jim. Jim went away to the Navy, and Mary Jane graduated from Muskingum College in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. She came back to Newark, Jim came back from Korea and they were married on June 19, 1955. Mary Jane taught 2nd grade at Hazelwood and North Elementary schools for many years. She also gained additional training at Ohio State University - Newark and helped children with learning disabilities.

Mary Jane was busy in her free time also. She was a long-time member of Neal Avenue United Methodist Church and she volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and Licking Memorial TWIG 11. Mary Jane loved to garden, hug her kitties and reminisce about "life on the farm". You were the best, Momma.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Newark for their sincere kindness and care for Mary Jane during the three years she made it her home.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral, with a private burial at Frazeysburg, Ohio cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Licking County Humane Society or the Food Pantry Network of Licking County.
