Obituary

Mary Anne Sheffield, 67, of Dresden, Ohio passed from this world of pain after a two- and half-year battle with ovarian cancer, Wednesday morning, April 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 12, 1954 in Zanesville, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Verna (Smythe) Cordray and a 1972 graduate of Tri-Valley High School.  Mary Anne was a member of Tri-Valley's very first girls basketball team and was voted current treasurer for the class of '72.  She was also a proud member of The Grannies, a group of her closest friends.

Mary Anne was a Methodist by faith and grew up in the Dresden United Methodist Church.  She later became a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church in Zanesville where she served in the Verla Moore Service Club.  She served on the cemetery board in Dresden for many years and took over the role of secretary from her mother.  This played perfectly into Mary Anne's love of genealogy, as her mom had researched the family lineage and discovered her family was one of the first families to live in Ohio.  She also loved to sew and hike and was a co-founder of Hiker Chicks, a women's hiking club.  Mary Anne was known as the A Tri-Valley band mom and grandma for over thirty years but will be best remembered for how much she loved her children and grandchildren.

Surviving is her loving husband, Ken Sheffield, whom she married June 13, 1993; four daughters, Carrie Lynne Schott (Jason) McKee of Zanesville, Cassie "Lizzie" (Jordan) Temple of Nashport, Callie Anne (Jonathan) Carter of Zanesville and Aimee Sheffield of Washington Court House; a son, David Sheffield of Columbus; twenty grandchildren; four great grandchildren, with one on the way; her sister and best friend, Pat Stevens of Dresden and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Sheffield; daughter, Laura Sheffield, brother Tom Cordray and brother in-law, Lee Stevens.

Calling hours will be 5pm to 8pm Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral Services will be 11:00am Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the funeral home with Rev. Doug Lynn and Rev. Jon Carter officiating. Mary Anne will be laid to rest in Dresden Cemetery.
