Obituary

Funeral services for Marvin R. Erwin, 80 of Newark will be held Tuesday June 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of God, God?s Acres, 675 N. Cedar Street, with Pastor Roger Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Mr. Erwin died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born August 14, 1924 in Radcliff, Ohio to the late Robert E. and Desta Irene (Miller) Erwin. Mr. Erwin retired in 1999 as the owner of Newark Auto Sales. Mr. Erwin was a member of Church of God, God?s Acres. He was an evangelist and served the Liberty Chapel Church of God in Tiffin, Ohio. Mr. Erwin served 13 years in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korean Conflict. He served as a Master Sgt. in Operations, Co. A 97th Engineers and received 5 bronze stars and 3 purple hearts.He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ruth Ella (Monk) Erwin, whom he married February 17, 1947; children, Marvin (Linda) Erwin of Wanesville, Mo., Max (Judy) Erwin of Newark, Robert (Alyce ?Oopy?) Erwin of Findlay and Kitty (Steve) Friesner, Sr. of Newark; godson, Marvin ?Sonny? (Ann) Saltsman of Carroll; brothers, Robert Erwin of Columbus, William (Shirley) Erwin of Hebron, Charles Erwin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; sister, Helen (James) VanSysoc of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren, one grandson raised in his home, Max (Stephanee) Erwin, Jr., Michael (Shannon) Erwin, Melinda (James) Ulm, Steven (Katherine) Friesner, Jr. and Tracey Godtheart; 13 great-grandchildren; a foster grandson, Michael and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents one great granddaughter is deceased.Calling hours will be observed Monday June 13, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church of God, God?s Acres 675 N. Cedar Street.Memorial contributions may be made to Feed the Children P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73101-0036. Envelopes will be available at the church.
