Martin D. Saunders, 75 of Granville died Thursday July 5, 2007 at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born May 19, 1932 in Union Twp., Licking County to the late Lee A. and Esther M (Merle) Saunders. Mr. Saunders retired after 31 years service with Western Electric and Lucent Technologies. He served in the U.S. Army, a member of American Legion Post # 85, Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Saunders was an avid gardener and enjoyed his time with the Liar?s Club at Taylor?s.Mr. Saunders is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lila B (Baughman) Saunders, whom he married January 13, 1954; daughter, Deborah (Riley) Moore of Heath; son, David (Janet) Saunders of Elmore, Ohio; sister, Doris (Robert) Toland of Heath; brothers, Wilbur (Ann) Saunders of Newark, Richard (Jeanne) Saunders of Newark; sister-in-law, Louise Sharp of St. Louisville; grandson, Colton Moore; step grandchildren, Natalie Noel, Ada Moore, Austin Moore; many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Delores; brothers, Ray, Howard and Herbert.Calling hours will be observed Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street.The family requests contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road SE, Newark, Ohio 43055-9925, Granville Fire Department, 133 N.
