Martha Emily Zimmer, 100, of Adams Mills, Ohio died Tuesday morning January 14, 2014 at The Oaks at Northpointe in Zanesville, Ohio
Born September 22, 1913, the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Bertha (Heddleson) Patten, both from Noble County, Ohio. Her father had purchased 20 acres of ground at East Granville, Ohio in Licking County and built a house and this is where Martha was born. At school age she attended a one room country school for five years, then from sixth grade until graduation from high school she went to the two schools in Granville, the home of Denison University. Her working years that followed were with the Northern Baptist Convention as a stenographer, and with The Peoples State Bank as bookkeeper. Martha later married Carl Hosick Zimmer of Granville, a grandson of the late Dr. William R. Hosick. Thereafter she worked for one year in Cincinnati in the bookkeeping department of Lett & Company Trucking. Later she and her husband moved to their home in Adams Mills, Ohio in Muskingum County. She worked for over 27 years for Graham Equipment Company as payroll clerk and parts sales lady for farm equipment. She retired at age 66 and aspired to her love of growing flowers, and gave 10 years of service to the First Baptist Church of Dresden where she was a member.
Surviving are a son, Allan Zimmer of Norfolk, Virginia; three daughters, Carolyn (Leroy) Dickerson of Frazeysburg, Ohio, Kathleen Zimmer of Grand Prairie, Texas and Arlene (Graham) Weaver of Nashport, Ohio; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three step-great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Zimmer on July 3, 1990; two sisters and two brothers.
Calling hours will be 3pm to 5pm Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Offenberger officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
