Obituary

Marion E. Prouty, Jr., 74, of Dresden, Ohio died Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2014 at his home.

Born February 24, 1940 in Dresden he was a son of the late Marion E. Prouty, Sr. and Helen (Snack) Prouty and was a 1959 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. He was a member of Dresden Lodge #103, F&AM and was a veteran member of the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Prouty loved Bluegrass music and was a Banjo player with many area Bluegrass groups and he was a member of the Muskingum County Country Music Hall of Fame. He was also an avid hunter and Winchester collector and was very proud of his extensive collection of "Winchester" items.

Surviving are two sons, Drake (Karen) Prouty of Dresden and Rusty Prouty of Newark, Ohio; three grandchildren, Sydney Lapp, Dayne Prouty and Jessica Prouty; five brothers, Vernon (Dorothy) Prouty of Zanesville, Victor (Linda) Prouty of Dresden, Max (Joyce) Prouty of Baltimore, Ohio, Loren (Loretta) Prouty of Zanesville and Larry (Shirley) Prouty of Dresden; a sister Shirley (Francis) Holzschuher of Dresden and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Phyllis A. (Walton) Prouty, who died March 11, 2009.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Dresden Lodge will conduct Masonic services following calling hours at 8pm.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Joseph Offenberger officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dresden Volunteer Fire Department, Post Office Box 687, Dresden, or to the Dresden Police Cruiser Fund, Post Office Box 201, Dresden, Ohio.
