Obituary

A celebration of life service for Margaret E. "Peggy" Ketner will be held on Sunday July 11, 2021 at the James Bradley Center, Infirmary Mound Park, 4351 Lancaster Road, Granville, OH from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Salyers officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow. Please message or text your intentions to attend to the family for planning purposes.

Margaret E. "Peggy" Ketner, 66 of Granville passed away peacefully on Saturday evening December 5, 2020 at her home with her family. She was born May 29, 1954 in Newark to Joseph E. and Alice M (Dawson) Spring.

Affectionately known as Peggy by everyone who knew her, she had a very blessed life filled with the love of family and friends.

After graduating from Newark High School in 1972, Peggy spent her career in education. She had a passion for teaching, starting in her early married life as a Sunday school teacher and as a teacher aide at Newark Montessori and Granville Schools. She received her bachelor's degree at The Ohio State University while also caring for her young children. She later completed a Master's degree from Ashland University. Peggy taught in the GED program with CORC Job training and eventually joined the COTC faculty as a communications instructor where she taught for 19 years.  Peggy was loved by her students and earned the OAACE Outstanding Instructor award for the state of Ohio in 1995.  She retired in 2012.

Peggy was an active member of her church, Newark First United Methodist Church, for the past 35 years. She served in Mary Circle, Twentieth Century Club and the New-Ark Area Emmaus Community. Peggy was a devoted wife who lived her own true love story with Robert (Bob) Ketner, her husband of 47 years. She was a loving mother, supporting her children with unconditional love and spending hours taking her daughters to swim meets. She loved to paint and was an avid reader.

She was able to overcome significant obstacles in her life, including beating brain cancer after being diagnosed in 1993 at the age of 39. Peggy was known for her unending kindness, bright smile and always having a positive outlook on life. She was admired for her quiet strength and loved for how she nurtured and cared for those around her.

In addition to her mother, Alice Spring of Newark; she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert I. Ketner whom she married May 12, 1973; daughters, Dr. Alisha (David) Saultz of Portland, OR, and Julie M. (W. Josh) Kemp of Granville; grandchildren, Derek Saultz, Sharon Saultz, Alison Saultz, Lukas Kemp, Owen Kemp, River Kemp and Bethany Ezekiel Goff; siblings, Debbie Sherman, Joseph Spring (Phyllis Weir), Robert (Marlene) Spring, Jeanne Kaercher, Richard Spring all of Newark and Vicki Spring (Dr. Steve Hazelcorn) of Thornville; sister in law Julie K. Barrett and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph E. Spring and son, Ryan Ketner.

A private family interment has taken place at Hanover Cemetery.
