IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mandy E.
(Green) Hughes
August 17, 1981 – August 2, 2024
The Lord gently took Mandy (Green) Hughes away on Friday, August 2, 2024. Her loving daughters and family were by her side. Mandy was born to the late Beverly June (Wentzel) and Clarence Green on August 17, 1981, in Newark, Ohio. Mandy, as her name means, was a gift from God. Mandy spent most of her life battling serious physical conditions. In 1982, she was diagnosed with histiocytosis X, a rare form of leukemia. The medical outlook was grim. The doctors shared that Mandy would never live, never go to school, and certainly never have a family. But the prayers poured in, including those of the late Pastor Emerson Wilson. Defying all medical explanation, Mandy was divinely healed at the age of 6. Her mom, Beverly, knew that "when people prayed for us, God would answer our prayers."
The financial burden of medical expenses was nonetheless devasting, resulting in the family home being scheduled for public auction on October 16, 1987. Mandy's story, The Price of Love, caught the attention of the local media, and within days of the auction, Channel 10 TV featured Mandy on the evening news. The community responded with tremendous love, financial gifts, and letters of support. The late Newark businessman William C. Kraner and his family became touched by the situation and committed to personally pay the tax debts and double mortgage. He gave the family a brand-new mini-van and flew Mandy and family to Disney World in his private jet.
Mandy went on to live a beautiful life, graduating from Licking Valley High School in 2000 and attending Central Alabama Community College. She became a certified Pharmacy Tech and later worked at CVS and the Ohio State University Hospital Pharmacy. In 2009, Mandy married and soon became the proud mother of daughters Chloe (11) and RaeLynn (8). They were her constant inspiration and the loves of her life.
Mandy was uniquely gifted to carry her cross of suffering with grace, love, and kindness. She had numerous surgeries in her life and was diagnosed in 2018 with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Mandy showed unthinkable courage and bravery as she stoically battled through a bone marrow transplant and several subsequent treatments. She was in remission until March of 2023 when the cancer returned. Mandy continued to defy the odds, and through the ongoing prayers of many, survived numerous near-death experiences. Her dear mom, Beverly, often shared that Mandy's life "was a parade of miracles." In spite of the hardships she endured, Mandy maintained a sweet, loving spirit. Only God knows the number of people she touched and inspired along the way.
Mandy is survived by daughters Chloe and RaeLynn Hughes; father Clarence Green and step-mother Rose (Wilson) Green of Frazeysburg; brothers Walter (Barbie) Green of Fredericktown; Wayne Green (Tonja Nutter) of Mt. Vernon; Woody (Dorenda) Green of Keller, Texas; sisters, Melody (Justin) Blake of Fort Myers, Florida and Molly (Robert) Mora of Worthington; step-brother Rodney Wilson and step-sisters Tomma (David) Beverley and Amy (David) Bremer all of Frazesyburg; nephews Clint, Nolan, Alex, Aiden and Landon; aunts Janice (Daniel) Wilkin, Becky (Rodger) Orr, Carol Hanby, Diane Green, and Mary Wentzel; uncles Dale Holtz, Marvin (Cindy) Miller, and Steve (Beth) Miller
