A funeral service for Major Richard L. ?Rich? Mummey, 46 of Powell, will be at 11:00 AM Friday October 14, 2005 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Farner, officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Maj. Mummey died Tuesday October 11, 2005 at Kobacker House, Columbus. He was born May 19, 1959 to the late Richard L. Mummey and Betty L. (Henderson) Mummey. Maj. Mummey served in the Ohio Air National Guard. His military service began in February of 1987, and he was commissioned an officer in November of 1993. He served in the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing Maintenance Squadron; 121st Air Refueling Wing as an Intelligence Officer and Logistics Plans Officer. He also served in the Ohio Nation Guard State Headquarters as a Labor Relations Specialist in the Human Resources Office. Maj. Mummey?s decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal, two Air Force Achievement Medals, a National Defense Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Maj. Mummey was a graduate of Park College, and Capital University Law School. In addition to his military service he also taught at Franklin University, Columbus. Maj. Mummey was a member of the Grace Brethren Church of Powell. Maj. Mummey is survived by his grandmother, Mabel Henderson of Newark; his mother, Betty L. Gray of Newark; three brothers, Gary (Juleen) Mummey of Newark, Robert (Judy) Mummey of Heath, Robin L. Mummey of Westerville; two sisters, Jennifer (Bob) Bowers of Conneaut, Susan Rauch, of Michigan; an uncle, Rick (Marcia) Henderson of Newark; a special friend Angela Gilmore; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his father, an infant sister, Marilyn Michelle, preceded him in death. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 Thursday at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
