M. Jane Resta, 89 of Newark passed away on Monday October 2, 2023 at her residence.

Jane (Embrey) Resta was born on October 29, 1933 to Sheriff Ross and Nora Embrey. After the death of her father, her mother became the first female sheriff of Licking County to complete her late husband's term. They continued to live in the historic Licking County Jail on S. Third Street in Newark, Ohio.

Jane never knew a stranger and all were always welcome. She loved dogs, tootsie rolls, sitting on her front porch, and hosting parties. She was a loyal OSU Buckeye fan. You knew she would have the game on and everyone was welcome to come watch on football Saturdays. The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio, all of the restaurants that she frequented in Newark, and many friends who shared time with her.

She is survived by her daughters, Michele Resta (Bob Brooker), Lori Resta (Donel Gastineau); her grandchildren, Philip (Erin) Palmisano, Tyler Palmisano (Liz St. John), Sadie Gastineau; great- grandchildren, Isabella Palmisano, Vincenzo "Eicke" Palmisano; nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Philip E. Resta; parents; brother, John V. Embrey; sister, Jeanne (Embrey) Francis, as well as her beloved dogs Lady, Collie, Zwojay, Shelby, Phoebe I and Phoebe II.

We respectfully request that you do not wear pink to her services due to her strong dislike of the color.

The funeral service will be held at 11am Monday October 9th in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street. Calling hours will be observed Sunday October 8th from 3pm - 5pm at the funeral home.
