A funeral service for Lowell R. Baughman, 86 of Newark will be held Monday February 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes with Rev. Barbara Sholis officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Baughman died Thursday morning at the Arlington Care Center. He was born February 27, 1920 in Newark, Ohio to the late Noble A. and Arla (Ross) Baughman. His wife of 66 years Velma (Shepherd) Baughman whom he married on February 25, 1940 died later on Thursday. Mr. Baughman was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. He served many years as an usher. He was a 65-year member of the Newark Lodge # 97 F & AM. He was a member of Newark Kiwanis Club for 42 years and President in 1971-1972. He was employed at Walker & Battat Ford for 40 years. He retired in 1988 after many years as the general manager. He was employed an additional 10 years in management at Bowman Chevrolet. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Mr. Baughman enjoyed cars, fishing and golfing during his lifetime. Survivors include his son, Gordon S. Baughman of St. Paul, Minn.; niece, Cyndi (Dave) McPhaden of Newark; nephew, Larry (Robin) Shoemaker of Newark; great nieces, Bethany Warthen of Grove City, Jennifer (Louie) Johnson of Greenville, NC.; Amy (Mike) Gray of New Albany and great nephew, Matthew Shoemaker of Newark. Mr. Baughman was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Dean and Ruth Griffith. Calling hours will be observed Sunday February 4, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street. Masonic services will be held at Sunday at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road SE, Newark, Ohio 43055-9925.
