Lola Marjorie Power Giles, age 83, resident of Willard, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Mercy Willard Hospital. She was born September 29, 1927 in Marengo, Ohio to the late Rev. William and Lelia (Sargent) Power. Lola was salutatorian of her H.S. graduating class of 1945, Frazeysburg, Ohio. She went on to join the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp and received her RN degree from the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, Cleveland, Ohio in 1948. Lola retired from the Mercy Willard Hospital in 1992, after 38 years of serving as a surgery supervisor, OB nurse, and ICCU nurse. She was a past two year president of A.O.R.N. (Association of Operating Room Nurses), a member of the Chit Chat Club, the Willard Mercy Retired Nurses and the Christian Alliance Church. Lola received the Catherine McAuley Lifetime Commitment to Service Award from Mercy Willard Hospital in 2006 for her commitment to serving others. She loved working outside in her yard and creatively painting clothing. Lola dedicated her life to helping others.
She is survived by a son, Dennis and Patricia (Hicks) Giles of Monroeville; daughter, Beverly and Michael Kahler of Attica; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Lisa, Bradley, Jeff, Virgil IV, Sarah, Dennis Jr., Amber, Bridgette, Sarah and Brandon; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Rev. Bashford Power, Chula Vista, CA; two sisters, Lelia Funk, Willard and Naomi Wasson, Frazeysburg, Ohio; numerous extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Virgil Giles Jr. in 1990; daughter, Janelle (Giles) Knapp in 1985; son, Virgil Giles III in 1970; parents, Rev. William and Lelia (Sargent) Power; 3 brothers, Robert, Charles and William Power and 3 sisters, Marguariette Alltop, Pauline Chase and Ruth Wagner.
Friends may call on the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, Ohio on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 PM with Reverend Jim Trainer officiating. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery in Steuben, Ohio.
