Lola S. Crown Hains, 93, of Dresden, Ohio died Thursday morning, February 11, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Holly Crown.
Born March 16, 1927 in Zanesville, Ohio she was a daughter of the late John Francis Shaw, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth (Graham) Shaw. Lola was a 1945 graduate of Frazeysburg High School and a 1949 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received her Bachelor's degree in education. She was retired from Tri-Valley Schools where she taught Home Economics at Tri-Valley High School. Previously she had taught in McConnelsville, Celina and at Muskingum Area Technical College during her 30-year career as a teacher. Lola was a member of Dresden United Methodist Church where sang in the choir and served on the church board. She was also president of the UMW for several years. In recent years Lola attended Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of the Zanesville Community Singers, the Kismet Club and the Review Club.
Surviving is one son, John R. (Cheryl) Crown of Dresden; three daughters, Rebecca E. (Scott) Robinson of Kensington, Maryland, Marilyn (Marcus) Crown Grodi and Holly E. Crown, both of Dresden; seven grandchildren, Amber, Dayne, Jon Marc, Peter, Richard, Ashley and Sam and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Janet Shaw Baker of Frazeysburg; a brother, George (Connie) Shaw of Urbana, Ohio; her step-children, Larry Hains and Shirley Harris, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard E. Crown who died in 1985; her second husband, Loran J. Hains who died in 2004; a brother John Francis Shaw, Jr.; a sister in-law, Lois Shaw and a brother in-law, Warren Baker.
Calling hours will be 3pm to 6pm Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the funeral home with Lola's grandson, Father Peter D. Grodi and Pastor David McCann officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
