FRAZEYSBURG ? Lester E. Baughman, 88, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, died at 8:57am Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Genesis Bethesda Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio. Born August 28, 1915 in Black Run, Ohio, he was the son of the late Daniel Brice and Bessie L. (Lindemood) Baughman and was a 1934 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. Mr. Baughman was an active member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church where he had been a member for over 50 years. He served on the Board of Elders, was a Deacon, a former member of the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Wit and Wisdom Sunday School Class. Mr. Baughman, his late wife, Grace, his late brother Harold and late sister in-law Ruth Baughman operated Baughman & Sons Funeral Homes of Frazeysburg and Dresden, which was founded by his father in 1902. He retired in 1981 after 42 years of service, but had remained an active member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. After his retirement, he became very active in community service to the Village of Frazeysburg. He was a Charter and Life member of the Frazeysburg Lions Club where he was a Past President, a former member of the Board of Trustees and was currently the club Lion Tamer. He was active in Eye Express, transporting donated donor tissue, and was the recipient of many Lions Club awards, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the Jim Coffee Scholarship Award, the Knights for Sight Award and Frazeysburg Lion of the Year. He was also a 65 year member and Past Master of Frazeysburg Lodge #490, F. & A. M. and the Frazeysburg Revitalization Association. Mr. Baughman loved animals and wildlife and his hobby was taking care of his ?kittys? and he spent many hours feeding the ducks and geese at Putnam Landing in Zanesville. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including David and Helen Baughman of Heath, Ohio, Neal and Sally Baughman of Nashport, Ohio and Rosalie Bush-Ryall of Louisville, Kentucky; several great nieces and great nephews, including Thad Baughman of Edwards Air Force Base, California, Brad and Christine Baughman of Chattanooga, Texas, Gayle and Eric Detwiler of Wake Forrest, North Carolina, Kelly and Greg Ashby and Tim Painter, both of Zanesville; and several great great nieces and great great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Grace A. (Ryall) Baughman, whom he married September 9, 1938 and who died February 18, 1995; and his brother, Harold Baughman. Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm Thursday, November 20, 2003 at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 Third Street, Frazeysburg, where Frazeysburg Lodge will conduct services at 6:00pm and Frazeysburg Lions Club will conduct services at 6:30pm. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church with Dr. James A. Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
