Larry Robert ?Rob? Harper, Jr., 40, of Chillicothe, formerly of Dresden, drowned Monday afternoon June 19, 2006 following his successful rescue of his six year old son in the Scioto River near Chillicothe. Mr. Harper was born October 25, 1965 in Zanesville and was a 1984 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. He was a six year veteran of the US Army serving as a Special Forces Green Beret Airborne. He served as a medic in the 216th Engineer Battalion Ohio National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2005. Mr. Harper was a paramedic and had worked in Toledo and managed a medic company in Chillicothe and Scioto County and was currently employed at Cardinal Trucking. Active in school activities with his children, he had served as a Capitan with the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Audra (Cox) Harper, whom he married January 10, 1986, his daughter, Natasha Harper, his sons, Wesley Harper, Lucas Harper all of the home, his father Larry (Shirley) Harper, Sr. of Dresden, mother, Leona ""Lou"" (Melvin) Ford of Roseville, his brother, Michael (Angie) Harper of Coshocton, father and mother in law, Gary (Sonny) and Polly Cox of Nelsonville, brother in law, Gary Lee Cox of Nelsonville, sisters in law, Tammy (Bob) May of New Plymouth, Cindy (Timothy) Lawrence of Logan and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy & Doris Harper and Roy & Florence ""Eva"" Spires; and great grandmother, Janie Swope. Friends may call 4-9PM Saturday June 24, 2006 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden, OH 43821. A funeral service will be held at 3PM Sunday June 25, 2006 at the Jubilee Revival Center Church, 10516 St. Rt. 60, Dresden with Pastor Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery with full military honors.
