Rev. Lowell David Martin, 59, of Dresden, died at 6:30PM Sunday February 2, 2003 at his home in Dresden. Church and family were his life, heaven is now his home. He was born August 20, 1943 to Bertha L. Martin of Oak Hill, Ohio and the late Clarence H. Martin. A 1961 graduate of Oak Hill High School, he received a B.S. degree in Industrial Management from The Ohio State University in 1967 and was employed at the Timken Company from 1967-1989. In 1989, he felt the call to enter the pastoral ministry. He attended the United Theological Seminary in Dayton while serving the Martinsville and Westboro United Methodist Churches and received a Masters in Theology in 1992. He also served the Zion U. Methodist Church in Whitehouse and most recently, the Dresden U. Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Janet (Herbert) Martin, whom he married June 20, 1964; daughters Sheryl (Bret) Herren of Centerburg, Susan Hayes of Cambridge, five grandchildren, Joe, Brittany and Zachariah Herren; Jennifer and Jessica Hayes; three sisters, Joyce (Sheridan) Hughes of Marion, Barbara (Denver) Nelson of Greenup, Ky., Janet (Phillip) Rowell of Kaneohe, Hawaii. A brother, Marvin Martin, preceded him in death. Friends may call 4-8PM Wednesday February 5, 2003 at the Dresden U. Methodist Church, where services will be held at 1PM Thursday with Newark District Superintendant, Rev. Sue Ellen Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
