Obituary

Kermit L. Sheets, 72, of Dresden, died at 2:20am Tuesday August 2, 2011 at Emeritus At North Hills in Zanesville.

Mr. Sheets was born August 5, 1938 in Delaware, Ohio, a son of the late Forrest and Marie (Bradley) Sheets. Mr. Sheets, his brothers and his sister all served in Armed Services of the United States. He was an Army veteran and served from 1955-1958. For 18 years he managed Skagg's Drug Stores in Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. For many years he owned and operated Richwood Flowers and Gifts in Richwood, Ohio. He was a member of the Prospect U. Methodist Church near Dresden and after his son Mark was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease, he spent countless hours raising awareness and fundraising for the ALS Association. He enjoyed classic cars and was able to obtain the 1954 Mercury that had been in his family originally and spent many hours at car shows and parades.

He is survived by his wife, Athern (Thomas) Sheets, whom he married October 15, 1982; his children, Mike (Gina) Sheets of KY, Jamie (Ron) Arp of CA, Kermit "Kipp" (Michelle) Sheets, II of Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Maria Sheets of Topeka, KS; sister, Kathryn Sullivan and brothers, Kelly Sheets and Kris (Barb) Sheets all of Arizona; a sister-in-law Mary Kay Sheets of Delaware; step children, Charles Eric (Lori) Spiker, Kevin (Amy) Spiker both of Dresden, Debbie (Rick) Green of Zanesville; 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Mark Sheets; brothers Kenny and Keith Sheets, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Sheets and a brother-in-law Lowell Thomas.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8pm Thursday August 4, 2011 at the Dresden Chapel, Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday with Pastor Sharon Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
