October 26, 1947 – July 31, 2024
Dr. Kenneth John Stovcik of Harbor Hills, Hebron passed to his eternal home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was born in Cleveland, OH on October 26, 1947 to the late Casper and Irene (Zuk) Stovcik.
Dr. Ken was very active in community and church events. He began his career as a U.S. Naval dentist in Washington, D.C after OSU Dental college. During his 45 years of dentistry, he enjoyed practicing in Thornville with his wife, then he decided to specialize at The OSU Endodontic program, practicing then in Newark and Heath for 33 years; he taught Endodontics at OSU to further education of dental students and volunteered weekly at the Look Up Center for 11 years.
As a member of First United Methodist Church Ken participated in Bible studies, United Methodist Men's Group, Emmaus Walk and Henderson Settlement teams to build homes for those in need in Kentucky.
Dr. Ken enjoyed traveling, Lake Erie fishing and Canadian hunting. Travels with his companion, wife Joy, included cruises, visiting both the North and South Poles and their last trip was the Holy Land, the best of all.
The Thornville Lions Club was important to him where he served in numerous ways and offices of that organization.
Dr. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Joy (Bebout) Stovcik, of 50 years; his sister, Debbie (Bob) Hill, their three children and families; and niece Hayley Stovcik.
In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Stovcik; son, John Joseph (J.J.) Stovcik and brother-in-law, John Bebout.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 88 N. 5th St. Newark with Pastors Barbara Salyers and Peter Borhauer officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provide by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street. Thornville Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.
