Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Martin, 93, of Dresden, Ohio died Tuesday afternoon, April 4, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio. His loving family was at his side.

Born August 30, 1923 in Zanesville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Alice (Eppley) Martin and was a 1942 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School, where he was active in all sports and also the livestock judging team. Kenneth was a retired grain and dairy farmer and was a former partner with his brothers at Martin's Dairy of Dresden from 1945 to 1973. He was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church, a 70 year member of Dresden Lodge #103, F. & A. M.; and a member of the Ancient and Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge. He was also a former member and Past Patron of Dresden Chapter, O. E. S. #260, the Dresden JayCees, the Tri-Valley Athletic Boosters, former board member of the Federal Land Bank, a former Jefferson Township Trustee and was currently a Muskingum County Republican Committeeman. Kenneth was an avid sports fan of the Jefferson Jayhawks, the Tri-Valley Scotties and Kent State Baseball. He was a very dedicated and proud husband and father and a loving and caring grandfather and loved watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at all sports and school activities.

Surviving are his six children, Rebecca (Ricky) Priest of Frazeysburg, Dr. Kenneth (Mary) Martin of Dresden, Maribeth (Ron) Shirer of Adamsville, Donald (Judy) Martin, James (Nancy) Martin and Julie Barnhard, all of Dresden; sixteen grandchildren, Richard Priest, Renee Shrimplin, Dr. Brian Martin, Dr. Lori Troxell, Dr. Adam Martin, Jeremy Martin, Lance Shirer, Kyle Shirer, Jon Shirer, Chad Shirer, Eli Martin, Matthew Martin, Jared Martin, Kara Martin, Dominic Barnhard and Clare Barnhard; twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also surviving is one brother, Forrest Martin of Galena, Ohio and a special cousin, Mary Helen Williams of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Clare Belle (Robison) Martin whom he married December 16, 1951 and who died December 19, 2007; a grandson, Lucas Martin who died in 1999, a son in-law, Dan Barnhard who died in 2005; four brothers, Donald, Samuel, Richard and Norman Martin and two sisters, Martha Martin Jones and Esther Mae Martin.

Calling hours will be 3pm to 8pm Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Dresden Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 8pm, following calling hours. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the service.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, Dresden with the Rev. Dave Leckrone officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery
