Obituary

Kathleen Marie Moore, 87, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Friday, April 28, 2023 at Brookdale of Zanesville, OH surrounded by her loving family. Kathleen was born October 14, 1935, in Adams Mills, OH, the youngest of eight children born to the late Wilbur & Gertrude (Cooper) King.

Kathleen met the love of her life, James Donald Moore when she was the homecoming attendant at the Dresden Homecoming in 1952. Don saw her picture in the paper and went to the homecoming to ask his future queen on a date and the rest is history. Kathleen graduated from Jefferson High School in 1953 and went to work as deputy clerk for the Muskingum County Probate Court, working under Judge W. O. Secrest for several years. Kathleen & Don were married on August 6, 1955, and established their home on the Moore Family Farm east of Frazeysburg. It was on that farm that our mother raised her 6 children whom she loved and adored.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to our mother. She loved being outdoors tending to her flower gardens and vegetable gardens and always kept her large lawn in perfect condition. She canned thousands of quarts of vegetables over the years along with the Moore's famous strawberry freezer jam. Seeing an amazing sunset from her kitchen window was quite possibly one of her favorite simple joys on the farm. A life-long Presbyterian, she was a member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where she taught Sunday school and played piano.

Above all else, our mother loved being a mother and grandmother. She would often host sleepovers with her grandkids and would surprise them in the mornings with their favorite smiley face, chocolate chip pancakes and cheesy scrambled eggs. She would sprinkle the food with her "LOVE" spice jar that she kept above the stove.  The ingredients written on that spice jar are Faithfulness, Gentleness, Goodness, Joy, Kindness, Patience, Peace, Perseverance, Protection, Trust, Truthfulness and Unselfishness – all qualities that describe our mother and grandmother. We will miss her dearly.

Kathleen is survived by her 6 children; Lisa Moore of Zanesville, OH, Scott (Pam) Moore of Dresden, OH, Karen (Victor) Velazquez of Dresden, OH, Douglas (Robin) Moore of Zanesville, OH, Marlene Wood of Huntington, WV and Annette Moore of Frazeysburg, OH; fifteen grandchildren, Casey (Brian) Daugherty, Sarah (Jon) Hendrickson, Heather (Ross) Barr, Katie (Scott) Schlegel, Kathleen (Josh) Phillips, Michelle (Christian) Castilla, Josh (Anna Marie) Velazquez, Shalane (Kayhan) Moore-Karatekeli, Sierra (Eastin) Lewellen, Slade Moore, Cody (Tanesha) Wood, Tyler (Baylee) Wood, Amber (Joseph) Bateman, Allyson Fisher and Audrey Fisher; nineteen great-grandchildren, Ellie, Laela, River, Oskar, Willa, Grace, Collette, Carmen, Calvin, Jack, Lily, Charlotte, Vivian, Emmy, Walker, Brooks, Emmalyn, Wyatt and Scarlett; also surviving are special friends Barb Jennings, the John Sharp family, the Raymond Frew family and the Gail Arnold family along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband of 61 years and her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her 7 siblings, Maurice King, Loren King, Lewis King, Mildred King Shores, Bernard King, Roland King and Arlene King Senter and son-in-law, Terry Wood.

Our family would like to thank Genesis Hospice, Primrose & Brookdale for the care given to our mother.
