Obituary

Karl Frederick â??Dutchâ? Ford, 80 of Newark passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Wednesday September 1, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio after a long struggle with lung disease. He was born February 1, 1930 in Newark to the late Earl J. and Clara (Varney) Ford, Sr.

Karl retired from the National Guard Armory in February 1992. He was a former Roper employee. He volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program and Catholic Social Services. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as an usher. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #1060, American Legion Post # 85, Fraternal Order of Eagles # 387, and Druids Grove # 41. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge # 499. He enjoyed visiting with people, watching golf and was an OSU Buckeye fan.

Karl a gentle, kind, generous man is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Bruce) Ford, whom he married November 9, 1955; sons, Carlin (Joyce) Ford, Karl â??Fredâ? Ford, Jr. both of Newark; sister, Barbara (Melvin) Cunningham of Newark; grandchildren, Stacey ( Sean) Weekley, Gina McKee, Fred Ford, Josh Abbott, Jeff Abbott, Jessica (Delvin) Bailey; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sandy R. (Wilson) Ford, four brothers and two sisters.

The family will be present for a time of remembrance of Carl's life on Friday September 10, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. Lodge, 469 Forry Avenue, Newark, Ohio.
