Obituary

Karen S. Riley, 65, of Dresden, died at 4:12PM Tuesday May 5, 2009 at Morrison House Hospice following a brief illness. Mrs. Riley was born February 23, 1944 in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Herman D. and Mildred A. (Long) Sarbaugh. She was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson High School and worked for over 38 years in Dresden as a bank teller retiring in 2000 from Bank One. Dedicated to Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs in Dresden, Mrs. Riley began as a Den Leader in 1974 and was active in unit, district and had served on the Executive Board of the Muskingum Valley Council. For 35 years she was committed to scout camping programs and youth development and leadership training. In 1979 she received the District Award of Merit, 1982 the Silver Beaver Award, 1983 Wood Badge Training and in 2003 the God and Country Award. Mrs. Riley was also an active member of the Dresden United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jerry L. Riley, whom she married June 14, 1964; one son, Daniel Riley of Dresden; her brother, Dean (Tacy) Sarbaugh of Zanesville; her sister, Eva M. (Tom) Byrer of Dublin; brother-in- law, Jim (Sandy) Riley of Stow; specials friends, Connie Buckmaster of Frazeysburg and Bill Compton of Coshocton and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Weldon L. Sarbaugh. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday May 8, 2009 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10AM Saturday at the Dresden United Methodist Church with Pastors Mary Kaufman and Max Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cub Scout and Boy Scout youth camping programs, c/o Cub Scout Pack #121, P.O. Box 9, Dresden, OH 43821.
