Joseph Alan Smith, 28, of Canal Winchester, formerly of Dresden died at 7:50PM December 21, 2006 at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center following sudden cardiac arrest. He was born July 16, 1978 in Zanesville, a son of Rick and Diane (Matchett) Smith of Dresden. A 1996 graduate of Tri-Valley High School, he attended Mid-East Career Center and trained as an LPN. He graduated from the Ohio University School of Nursing and worked at Bethesda Hospital, Maryvale Hospital in Phoenix, Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach and was currently working at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. When he lived in Dresden he was a member of the Dresden Fire Department & Squad. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Ryan (Missy) Smith of Dresden, his identical twin brother, Jeff (Jen) Smith of Heath, a nephew, Reece Smith; his fianc?, Sarah Donley; aunts and uncles, Terry and Sandy Matchett of Dresden, Mark and Pat Matchett of Frazeysburg, Debbie and Mike Seward of Dresden, Denise and Rick Morrison of Zanesville, Linda and Bruce Thomas of Dresden, Bill and Marsha Smith of Dresden, several great aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, many friends and his beloved dogs, Storm and Jazz. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale and Delores Matchett and Bernard and Marion Smith. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday December 27, 2006 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home in Dresden. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Thursday December 28, 2006 at the Jubilee Revival Center in Dresden with Pastor Rob Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
