A celebration of life service for Joseph B. Manning, Jr., 67 of Newark will be held Saturday October 9, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 383 Washington Street with Dr. Charles W. Noble officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.Mr. Manning died Saturday October 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born September 9, 1937 in Quitman, Georgia to the late Joseph Manning Sr. and Surrilla (Grant) Manning. Mr. Manning owned and operated Manning Lawn Care. He retired in February 2000 with 17 years service at Holophane. A member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, he served on the van committee and was a teacher for the Sr. Men?s Sunday School class. He was a member of the Licking County Jail Ministry and an avid fisherman.He is survived by his wife Elaine (Carter) Manning whom he married Nov. 14, 1998;great grand daughter, Christina Mitchell of the home; daughters, Barbara J. Manning, Linda Manning, Jacqueline G. Manning, Dianne Perales all of Toledo, Darlene Manning of Anaheim, Calif.; sons, Mark Manning and Joseph Manning, III both of Toledo; step daughters, Rhonda Avery (Thomas Smith), Kathryn Noble both of Newark, Holly (Edward) Jennings of Zanesville; step son, James McMillian, II of Columbus; brother, Norman (Ann) Carnegie of Albany, Georgia; sisters, Irene Greene of Newark , Mattie (Elijah) McKenny Valdosta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Doris Manning of Atlanta, Georgia several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; nephew, Donald Faller of Columbus and special friend, Dan Snodgrass of Newark.A brother Bobby Manning; sister, Ungerene Hancock; brothers-in-law, Bennie Hancock, Henry Greene preceded him in death.Calling hours will be observed Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Newark Chapel Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street.
