Joseph E. Dunn, 84, of Newark, died Wednesday May 4, 2011 at Kingston of Ashland in Ashland, Ohio.

A life long resident of Newark, Mr. Dunn was born October 8, 1926 in Newark, a son of the late Francis and Katherine S. (Scheoller) Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a 1944 graduate of Newark High School and had worked 32 years at Roper and the old Newark Stove Co. He retired after 15 years from CED Electrical of Newark. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and was a devoted family man. Mr. Dunn very much enjoyed his view of the world from his back porch. He appreciated his home and surroundings including the birds and wildlife and found pleasure in maintaining his home and yard.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Bonnie L. (Haycook) Dunn, whom he married June 16, 1951; two sons, Terrance J. (Eleanor) Dunn of Lynchburg, VA, Timothy F. (Diana) Dunn of Ashland; two grandchildren, Meredith I. Dunn and Adam J. Dunn both of Mt. Vernon; step grandchildren, Curtis Brown of Columbus, Capt. Jason Brown, USAF, serving in Guam, Amanda Brown of Ashland, Jordan Brown of Ashland; a step great-grandson, Christian Brown of Ashland; two brothers, Richard E. Dunn of Newark, John Dunn of Barstow, CA and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Dunn.

Friends may call 4PM-6PM Friday May 6, 2011 and Saturday 9AM-10AM at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:15AM at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mark Katrick officiating.
