A funeral service for Joseph W. â??Billâ? Queen 73, of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastors Jim Young and Joe Hill officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Queen died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born January 30, 1937 in Newark, to the late Joseph F. Queen and Margaret Smith Queen of Newark.
Mr. Queen retired in 1983 as a sergeant from the Newark Police Department, Patrol Division with 23 years of service. He was a member of the Newark Pistol Team and a charter member and co-founder of the Licking County FOP Lodge # 127. He was a 1955 graduate of NHS, a former telegraph operator for B & O Railroad, former Zanesville Police Department patrolman; McConnelsville Chief of Police; and volunteer medic with the Newark Twp. Fire Department. Mr. Queen was an avid poker player playing Texas Hold-em at home and in local tournaments. Mr. Queen authored and published five books, Escarpment, Valley of the Shadow, Death Follows, A Year of Fear and Temper.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Pansy L. (Osborn) Queen, whom he married July 11, 1975; son, William J. â??Billyâ? (Marcia) Queen of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Gayle Simpson Queen of Columbus; foster daughter, Betty â??BJâ? Elligett of Newark; grandchildren, Stacey (Justin) Swingle of Newark, Nicolas Queen of North Carolina, Andrea Queen of Indiana, Diamond, Danny, Destiny, Danasia and DaQueen Wright of Columbus, Derek Quick of Newark; brother, Frank (Anita) Queen of Ocala, FL; sister, Elizabeth (Ron) Nutter of Newark; mother-in-law and friend, Pearl B. Osborn of Talmadge; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Delbert (Peg) Osborn of Leesburg, FL, Lewis (Karen) Osborn, Jr. of Frazeysburg, Calvin (Vicki) Osborn of Newark, Judith (Ronnie) Hewitt of Newark, Asa (Marilyn) Osborn of Newark, Joy (Ed) Phillips of Talmadge; several nieces and nephews; special friends and extended family, Bill Clark of Zanesville, John Williams (Gloria Cooperrider), Jon and Shirley Cramer & family, Bob & Mary Morman, Joe Hill, Jana & Jack VanDach, Shawn Snow, Eva & Dave Evans, Art Patznick â??Bumpsyâ?, Bill & Nancy Heim, Del & Vonna Booher, Tim Elligett, members of the Rounders Poker Club and Rivers Club Poker, employees at TJâ??s Restaurant and granddog, Poochie..
