John W. Wilcox, Jr., 76, of Dresden, died at 7:49AM Thursday August 17, 2006 at Morrison House Hospice. Mr. Wilcox was born April 4, 1930 in Dresden a son, of the late John Wayne and Juanita L. (Paynter) Wilcox, Sr. A 1948 graduate of Jefferson High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Following his service in the Army, he worked for US Post Office and served as Dresden?s Postmaster for 37 years. He was a member of the Dresden U. Methodist Church, Charles M. Mitchell Post #399 American Legion and the Dresden VFW. Surviving are his wife, Barbara L. (Keyes) Wilcox, whom he married August 25, 1953; his children, John C. (Jenifer) Wilcox of Dresden, Rebecca L. (Joseph) Burwell of Zanesville, Thomas (Amy) Wilcox of Dresden; grandchildren, John A. (Annette) Wilcox of Zanesville, Evan R. Wilcox of Columbus, Lee J. Wilcox of Dresden, Brian Burwell of Zanesville, Steven Burwell of Wooster, Brittany Wilcox of Dresden, Mitchell B. Wilcox of Dresden; great grandchildren, Easton and Chezney Wilcox; brothers, Robert I. (Phyllis) Wilcox of Dresden, James W. (Carol) Wilcox of Dresden, sisters, Alice (Nick) Guibo of California, Wanda (James) Thornsley of Coshocton, many nieces, nephews and friends and brothers and sister in law, Ginny Lou Wilcox, of Dresden, Tom Rogers of Coshocton , Terry Ripple of Dresden and James Blatt of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard E. Wilcox and sisters, Mary Ellen Blatt, Janet Ripple, Martha Rogers and Donna Tignor. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-9PM Sunday August 20, 2006 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11AM Monday with Pastor Ricci Arthur officiating.
