John H. Rice, 84, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, formerly of Zanesville, Ohio died Saturday evening, March 29, 2014 at the home of his daughter, Debbie Miller in Frazeysburg.

Born June 20, 1929 in Newark, Ohio he was the son of the late Herman B. and Violet M. (Ashcraft) Rice and was a 1948 graduate of Hanover-Toboso High School. Mr. Rice served as a member of the Army National Guard and he retired in 1986 after 30 years of service as a heavy equipment mechanic with Shelly & Sands Company. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and the Operating Engineers Union.

Surviving is one son, and daughter in-law, Ron and Karen Rice of Zanesville; two daughters and sons in-law, Debbie and Bob Miller of Frazeysburg and Becky and Alvin Schockling of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Andy (Chrissy) Rice of Zanesville, Jessica Rice of Hilliard, Ohio, John (Jennifer) Miller of Elmore, Ohio, Adam (Beth) Miller of Hampton, Virginia, Nicole (Dave Coon) Schockling of Frazeysburg and Ryan (Kara) Schockling of Zanesville; three great grandchildren, Brady Rice, Tyler Rice and Evelyn Miller.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma L. (McKee) Rice, whom he married March 24, 1951 and who died February 23, 1999.

In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no calling hours and private family funeral services will be conducted with the Rev. Robert Mesnard officiating.   Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
