A memorial service for John A. Penix, 77 of Newark will be held Thursday June 15, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street with Pastor Tom Myers officiating.Mr. Penix died Tuesday June 13, 2006 at Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born December 2, 1928 in Greenup County, Kentucky to the late William Henry and Berhilda (Rigsby) Penix.Mr Penix retired from Ashland Oil as a welder. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid NASCAR fan.He is survived by his wife, Carol L. (Hupp) Penix whom he married September 27, 1985; children, Sherry Lynn (Wilbert) Vanater of Logan, W. Va., Janet (James) Miller of Hebron, Joyce (Steve) Wolfe of Buckeye Lake, Joanie (Bob) Kidd of Utica, Jackie (Bruce) Umstott of Coshocton, Raylene (Tyler) Bauchman of Newark, Larry (Phyllis) Oliver of Newark, Don (Kim) Jurden of Newark, Jerry (Carrie) Jurden of Newark; brothers Harold Gene (Towana) Penix of Baltimore, Md., Ronald Penix of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Mary (Vernon) Witte of Baltimore, Md.; thirty-five grandchildren and great grandchildren; close friends, Joann Terrill, John Markwell, Jerry Terrill, nieces, nephews; beloved dogs, Gidget and Bailey.In addition to his parents, a brother, William Glenn Penix, sisters, Juanita Moore, Carrie Moore; step-son, Edgar Oliver and a grandson, Brandon Pursley preceded him in death.Memorial contributions may be made to the LCAP Meals on Wheels 745 East Main Street Newark or Hospice of Central Ohio 2269 Cherry Valley Road Newark.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
