FRAZEYSBURG ? John L. Palkiewicz, 87, of Nashport, Ohio died Monday morning, November 24, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. Born November 1, 1921 in Hudson, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Frances (Sucholski) Palkiewicz. Mr. Palkiewicz was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1942 and had a very distinguished tour of duty serving in the 194th Field Artillery during World War II. It involved five major battles of the European Theatre, including Cassino, Italy where he later received the Silver Star for his actions in bravery. After the war he attended King?s College of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and received his Bachelor?s Degree in chemistry. Mr. Palkiewicz retired in 1989 as a chemist at the Newark Air Force Base in Heath, Ohio. He had also worked at General Electric in Coshocton, Ohio and United Technologies of Zanesville. He was a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #0888 of Columbus, Ohio. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Charmaine (Watkins) Palkiewicz whom he married May 2, 1959; one son, Neil (Sandy) Palkiewicz of Westerville, Ohio; one daughter Cindy (Leonard) Hollis of Round Rock, Texas; four grandchildren, Brendon Knapp, currently serving in the U. S. Navy, Aaron Palkiewicz of Mustang, Oklahoma and Bobby and Janelle Palkiewicz of Westerville; one brother, Stanley Palkiewicz of Edison, New Jersey; one sister, Josephine Palkiewicz of Avoca, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is he and Charmaine?s special extended family of Randy Miller and Bob and Debbie Miller of Frazeysburg; their very special beloved church family at the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church and their shepherd, Pastor Jeff Belt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Palkiewicz and two sisters, Stella Kania and Sister Anna Assumption. Calling hours will be 3pm to 7pm Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church, 87 West Second Street, with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery with Wakatomika Post #6193, VFW conducting military honors.
