John H. O'Flaherty, 75, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Thursday morning, October 22, 2015 in the emergency room of Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born May 15, 1940 in Hanover, Ohio he was a son of the late George E. and Ila (Morgan) O'Flaherty and was a 1958 graduate of Hanover-Toboso High School. He retired in 2000 from Sprint Telephone Company where he was a supervisor with 40 years of service. John was a member of Frazeysburg Community Bible Church where he led singing for over 50 years. He was a member and past president of Frazeysburg Lions Club and was a Past District Governor of Lions District 13-K. He was also a Past Council Chairman of Ohio Lions.
Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Darlene (Cannon) O'Flaherty whom he married November 5, 1960; a daughter Janna (Jeff) Hetrick of Frazeysburg; a son, Don (Helen) O'Flaherty of Frazeysburg; five grandchildren, Daniel (Jennie) O'Flaherty, of Frazeysburg, Joey O'Flaherty of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Courtney Hetrick of Rocky River, Ohio, Sarah O'Flaherty of Frazeysburg and Ryan Hetrick of Frazeysburg; two great grandchildren, Ish and Maeve O'Flaherty; a sister, Janice (Rich) Gamerdinger of Chester, West Virginia; a brother, James (Eleanor) O'Flaherty of Heath, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister and brother in-law, Betty and J. David Hutchison.
Calling hours will be 2pm to 7pm Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, October 26, 2015 at Frazeysburg Community Bible Church, 195 Second Street, with Rev. Al Van Fossen and Rev. Eric Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
