Obituary

A funeral service for John H. North, 85 of Newark will be held Wednesday February 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Michael W. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Mr. North died Sunday January 30, 2005 at the Newark Health Care Centre, Heritage Unit. He was born October 24, 1919 in Gosline, Ohio to the late Haney and Nellie (Gossett) North. He retired in 1982 having trimmed trees for 32 years with Parson?s Tree Service and Brown?s Tree Service. He served seven years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member and held several offices at American Legion Post # 85. He was a member of the Licking County Veterans Alliance and a lifetime member of Newark Eagles # 387.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Louise (Hoy) North, whom he married October 13, 1951; three daughters, Patricia I. (Terry) Loughman, Sr. of Newark, Brenda S. (Cline) Estep of Newark, Dawn E. (Bill) Fagnan of Newark; two sons, Raymond S. (Jan) North of St. Louisville, Harold R. (Louise) North of Columbus; eight grandchildren, one step granddaughter; five great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter; sister-in-law, Norma Thompson; nieces, nephews; very special friends, John Jacobs, JoAnn Bond, Carl Lambert, Debbie & Richard Myers.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Aura J. North; brother, Virgil North; sisters, Doris Shipley, Mary Shaner, Frieda Mossman, Della North, Ida North and a grandson, David North.Calling hours will be observed Tuesday February 1, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. American Legion services will be held Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
