John W. Flynn, 86, of Zanesville, Ohio died Monday morning, November 27, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville.
Born September 23, 1931 in Zanesville he was a son of the late James and May (White) Flynn and was a 1950 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. From a child he was raised by his "parents", the late Willis and Martha Harper. John proudly served our country with the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years, he and his wife lived in Lorain, Ohio and Avon, Ohio. During this time he was employed in the maintenance department of Cleveland Electric Illuminating/Centerior Energy Corporation, from which he retired in 1993. He was a life-long member of Muskingum Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Lafayette Lodge #79, F. & A. M., Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, the American Legion and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Surviving is his loving wife of 52 years, Beth Ann (Freshwater) Flynn, whom he married June 26, 1965; a son and daughter in-law, Steve and Denise Flynn of Zanesville; a sister, Ritchie Jones of Struthers, Ohio and many loving nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his beloved pet cat, "Rascal".
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jon Theodore "Ted" Flynn, who died April 11, 2013; four brothers, Gene Flynn, Bill Flynn, Bill Harper and Joe Harper and two sisters, Wilma Wiles and Marcelene Cooper.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Muskingum Presbyterian Church, 4545 Gorsuch Road, Nashport, Ohio, with Pastor Donna Edsall officiating.
Burial services will be 11:00am Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Frazeysburg Cemetery.
